Believe In Yourself

Sometimes Pandora will shuffle and land on a song that reminds me of you. Of summer. Of New York City. All combined into a perfect little memory of moments where I felt so happy. So free. So fun.

But that’s not really what I want to talk about.

I want to talk about believing in yourself.
Standing on your own side no matter what.
Ignoring what anyone thinks of you and focusing on what you think of you, and making it be the best thoughts you can possibly think of.

Change the narrative.
Empower yourself.
Cheer yourself on.

Be like an obsessively loving parent who leaves sweet notes in your lunch box and cuts the crusts off your sandwiches in the shape of a heart.

If you feel like giving up but you know this path is what you really want then push yourself a little harder. A little further. A little longer.

Take breaks when needed. Come back to it when you’re rested.

Remember not to take life too seriously. Have more fun. Laugh more. Don’t rush. Breathe. Trust.

Be on your own side.

Change It UP!

When our routines become overly familiar, life can feel painfully monotonous; bland, like a meal lacking some serious seasoning and a little bit of jalapeño pepper, (I like it spicy).

We can add a dash of flare to our day to day grind by making small changes that can lead to big discoveries and new experiences.

I always walk the same route when going to the gym, for instance. Yesterday, by spontaneity, I decided to turn right just one street before I normally do. I’ve never walked down that block before. As I’m walking down this new path, waving my head back and forth to the funky beat of some dubstep, I suddenly see a colorful sign that reads “fresh smoothies.” I FREAKING LOVE SMOOTHIES! I’ve lived in the area for a little over 2 years and did not know that down this block there existed a lovely little smoothie store that offers freshly squeezed juices and fruit smoothies! This small change in my routine allowed me to discover this cute spot that I can now buy delicious drinks from. I couldn’t be more excited. I walked into the smoothie store after my productive workout and purchased a refreshing, freshly squeezed beet, carrot, apple, and ginger juice! It was great! I walked home with a foot sized smile painted across my face as I joyfully slurped my juice.

This is what I’m talking about! Small changes in your every day routine that may bring you opportunities and experiences to shake up the old and birth the new.

I challenge you to take a new route!
I challenge you to wear your hair in a different style! I challenge you to wear a bold color you’d normally not wear! I challenge you to walk into a random restaurant and order something from the menu! I challenge you to start a conversation with a stranger!
I challenge you to make at least one small change in your routine!

Change it up! You’ll be amazed at how little changes can make your day, and ultimately your life, so much more exciting.

Have fun!

Just For Fun

“When you finally have a last look at your life you don’t want to then realize you’ve done everything while forgetting to have fun.” – Laura Gonzaga

Go out into the world and do what lights you up. Go ahead and do the things that bring you joy. Do them not because you want some kind of reward or recognition, do it simply for the pleasure the activity brings you. Rewards and recognition may or may not come, and this shouldn’t be the reason to stop you from just doing what you enjoy.

I really love to draw, but I have no real artistic talent. I can’t draw a beautifully realistic picture, and even my stick figures come out funny. I can imagine deeply creative work in my head, I just don’t have the skills to translate my vision using my hands on pen and paper. But I draw my “crappy” art work anyway! I do it just because it’s fun. I do it just because I enjoy it.

What is it that you like to do but have been putting off because you’re too afraid you’re not skilled enough?

Go do it!
Sing if you love to!
Dance if you love to!
Draw if you love to!
Bake if you love to!
Make crafts if you love to!
Write if you love to!

Don’t worry about whether you’re great at it or who is better than you, do what you like to do simply because it lights you up! Everything else will follow from there :)!

Here’s my art below!  🙂 It’s called “Never too late.” Because indeed, it’s never too late to just do something you love because you love it and just for fun.
